PLANNING:
COPYRIGHT LETTER
What
is a copyright letter? Why is it important?
Copyright refers to a legal right of
publishing a product and having an exclusivity to such media/ text. It is important
in order to secure yourself from any plagiarism issues and copycat behaviors. A
copyright letter is an appeal for the record company or an artist which asks for
their permission to use their product. It helps to reassure you that you are
able to use the content and there will be no issues when publishing your work
later on. It is important to know whether the artist authorizes your use of
their product and whether they agree with the way you are planning to use it as
later on it can be considered unlawful behaviour. After finalizing our song choice
my peer and I have created a copyright letter to secure ourselves the song and agree
the terms and conditions for later on when posting our work on popular
platforms like YouTube or Blogger.
Copyright
Letter
In our copyright letter we have made sure that
we introduce our course and course content and make it clear that the song will
be used for educational purposes only. We explained that we will not take
credit for the song and will acknowledge the artist and record company if
necessary. We also made it clear that the final product will be posted on
YouTube where the work can be assessed and marked. Lastly the letter explains that
we are more than happy to hear any feedback or suggestions in regards to our
product.
Email
Below is the image of the email and the
attached copyright letter. We are currently waiting for a reply from the song
author and the record company.
Conclusion
To conclude, it is important to think about
the copyright letter when creating such product. It allows you to carry out the
legitimate process of copyright and gives you an insight of what happens in the
media industry. It also helped us to understand the realities of plagiarism and
how important it is to credit owners for their work. We also gained crucial knowledge
to the prosecutions one must take when copyright is violated. By creating a
copyright letter my peer and I are now more secure in the making of our product
and can work on it under legal protection.
